Countdown to Publication: Fun Fact 60

I set the book in Portland because it's where I grew up--I know it. It was trickier writing about the scenes set in Chicago, a city I've visited a view times in the past several years. So why set it there? There was a thriving Scandinavian community there at the beginning of the 1900s. And it is where Nella Larsen grew up! A hat tip to her.
