100 Fun Facts about The Girl Who Fell From the Sky: Number 61, Countdown to Publication

At the pre-publication events I've attended, the most frequent question I got was from booksellers and librarians who wanted to know whether the book is a Young Adult book. I think of the book as "literary fiction"-- evocatively written and socially relevant. But that doesn't mean that it isn't also well-suited for young adults. I admit I use the f-word one time in there (but doesn't Salinger too?)--but otherwise, the themes and scenes aren't more mature than what you'd find in the Twilight series. In fact, I'm going to go all out and say that maybe the love story of the book will rival the romance of your favorite vampire series! (For you YA-ers who are not into vampires, think of The Book Thief and that lovely romance. That definitely was a model for The Girl Who Fell From the Sky.) So yes, it is a young adult novel in the sense that I know I have written a book that would have saved me as a young woman struggling with how to deal with other people's ideas of class, and worth and beauty.
